Kurds in Europe gathered for Abdullah Öcalan’s historic call

Kurds living in Europe watched Abdullah Öcalan’s historic call with great interest in mass gatherings at Democratic Kurdish Community Centers.

The Imrali Delegation met with Öcalan on Thursday morning and later shared his message with the public in Istanbul.

While the call was broadcast on giant screens in cities such as Amed (Diyarbakır), Wan (Van), and across North and East Syria, Kurds in Europe also came together at the invitation of the European Kurdish Democratic Societies Congress (KCDK-E), which urged, "Let us focus on Öcalan’s message." At Democratic Kurdish Community Centers (DKCCs), they collectively witnessed this historic call.

Cologne

In Cologne, Germany, Öcalan’s call for "Peace and a Democratic Society" was followed with great interest. Kurds gathered at the Cologne DKCC, attentively listening to the statement, which sparked extensive discussions about the new process initiated by Öcalan.

Following the announcement, the crowd erupted into chants of "Bijî Serok Apo" with great enthusiasm. One of the most emotional moments came when a photo of Öcalan and his imprisoned comrades, taken during their meeting with the delegation, was projected onto the screen. The image brought a deep silence to the hall, leaving a profound emotional impact on those present. Seeing Öcalan after so many years, the attendees frequently expressed their emotions through chants and slogans.

Kurds who followed the historic statement strongly reaffirmed their support for Öcalan. The hall echoed with prolonged applause, and the announcement was met with overwhelming excitement.

Among those who watched Öcalan’s historic statement, Hozan Comert remarked: "For years, Öcalan has called for a resolution through law and democratic politics. This is not new, but if a process is built upon it now, it will benefit both Kurds and Turks. If a legal foundation is established for Öcalan’s paradigm, everyone will gain."

Artist Bermal Çem added: "Our people, political parties, and artists will embrace and strengthen the process initiated by Öcalan."
