Kurds in Turkey protest against 9 October conspiracy

The Kurdish people in Turkey will be taking to the streets today in mass to protest against the 9 October 1998 international conspiracy against PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party) leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Protests at the fourteenth anniversary of the international conspiracy which ended up with Kurdish leader’s departure from Syria have started at early morning hours today as the people in all provinces and districts of North Kurdistan have closed their shops and are preparing for the mass demonstrations in the afternoon.

HAKKARÝ: All shops have been closed at the city center and districts of Yüksekova, Þemdinli and Çukurca in each of which police has taken intense security measures before the protest demonstrations and meetings that are expected to be joined by the majority of the people in the region.

ÞIRNAK: Most of the shops have not been opened in Þýrnak and the districts of Cizre and Ýdil before the march organized by BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) Þýrnak organization in the afternoon. Police teams have warned the people to not to join the march and to not to lead to provocation, saying that the march will not be allowed in the city. Armored vehicles are patrolling in the region where students are also supporting the protest by boycotting schools.

MARDÝN: Shopkeepers have not opened their shops in the districts of Kýzýltepe and Nusaybin where police has taken intense precautions as mass demonstrations are expected to be staged in both districts.

AMED: All shops have been closed and schools boycotted in the districts of Baðlar, Sur, Bismil, Hani and Lice where police has taken intense security measures. Broad participation is expected in the mass demonstration at city center in the afternoon. Armored vehicles have been deployed on all ways into the city where police is making id control on main streets and many other points.

Adana and Mersin are two other provinces where shopkeepers have not opened their shops today in many neighborhoods. Mass demonstrations are expected to be staged in both provinces in the afternoon.

On the other hand, clashes broke out between demonstrators and police in Hakkari’s Yüksekova district as police attacked a group of young people who lighted a fire and closed the way to traffic in protest against the conspiracy against the Kurdish leader. Police teams with long barreled weapons have been deployed in armored vehicles at many points in the town.
