Kurds march in Strasbourg

Thousands of people took to the streets in the Strasbourg city of France today to protest the isolation of the PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan and the military and police operations.

More than three thousand people have started a march at 10.30 this morning in front of the main railway station in Strasbourg. The demonstration of Kurds and their friends protested the air assaults led by the AKP government since August 17 and the ongoing military operations in the country. Demonstrators pointed out that no news has been received from Ocalan for 45 days an urged the international community to show sensitivity.

The march was joined by the Kongra Gel President Remzi Kartal, KNK President Tahir Kemalizade, Kongra-Gel Vice President Zubair Aydar, Niamettin Toðuç from KNK, KON-KURD President Ýsmet Kemve and representative of BDP Council of Europe, Faik Yaðýzay. While demonstrators are also supported by Turkish left movements, the demonstration is expected to last till 15.00.

On Friday Kurds staged a sit-in act in front of the CPT (Committee for the Prevention of Torture) building in Strasbourg from 09.00 in the morning till late evening. Demonstrators met with CPT officials and called attention to Ocalan’s situation.
