Kurds to gather in front of French Parliament on 20 October

Kurds in France will gather in front of the French Parliament on 20 October to protest against the arrest of Kurdish politician Adem Uzun and the France state’s operations targeting Kurds in the country.

With the France state’s detention and arrest operations against Kurds increasing more and more every day, Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) member Adem Uzun has been one of those recently targeted by arrests on 6 October.

Uzun was arrested after Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoðan said in an interview on 27 September that "some main European countries such as Germany and France allowed "terrorist leaders" to freely live in their countries".

KNK and KCK (Kurdish Communities Union) strongly reacted against Uzun's arrest and urged the France state to end its hostile policy against Kurds and to stop following Erdoðan's instructions.

According to records by ANF, over 200 Kurdish asylum seekers have been taken into custody by French police for political reasons since 2007. Separately, Ahmet Kaya Kurdish Cultural Center in Paris was closed by Paris criminal court on 2 November 2011.

On 7 October 2011, Turkey and France signed a bilateral security accord that permit the two countries to coordinate their efforts and reinforce their counterterrorism cooperation in the scope of fight against the PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party).
