Kürkçü MP: BDP-PKK encounter was an unplanned coincidence

In an interview to Radikal daily paper on Tuesday, Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Mersin MP Ertuðrul Kürkçü assessed the BDP-DTK delegation’s encounter with Kurdish guerrillas at a road control spot of guerrillas on the Þemdinli highway three days ago.

Responding to strong reactions and criticism which claimed the road control was a planned action, Kürkçü underlined that the encounter with guerrillas was a coincidence which –he said- should be understood better in consideration of the fact that the area where the encounter took place has been under the control of guerrillas for the last weeks.

“What I thought when seeing the guerrillas was the fact that these people are our children and our country and that we would like them to get back to the daily life and live in a free country. They are the people whom we want to survive the ongoing conflict and to build a life together with”, said Kürkçü as to his opinions about the encounter.

Kürkçü reminded of the statements by Republican People’s Party (CHP) deputy Hüseyin Aygün who mentioned guerrillas as the children of Turkey’s people and said after his two-day captivity by Kurdish guerrillas that he had kissed and hugged them before leaving. “We expect the same understanding with that showed to Mr. Aygün since both incidents are different appearings of the same reality. These people are the sons, daughters, nephews and nieces of the people who vote for us. You cannot turn your back to the hand extended to you and I have a clear conscience about this situation.”
