Latif Rashid takes presidential office

Latif Rashid who was elected the new President of Iraq following an election in the Iraqi Parliament on October 13, has taken the office in an official ceremony today.

Latif Rashid was elected as the new President of Iraq after an election in the Iraqi Parliament on October 13. The new President took office in an official ceremony held at the Salam Palace in Baghdad on Monday.

Speaker of the Parliament, Muhammed Halbusi, and his deputies, leaders of political groups in the Parliament, military commanders and former president Fuad Masum attended the ceremony.

Shanaz Ibrahim Ehmed, first lady, also took part in the ceremony.

Former President Barham Salih did not attend the ceremony.

Latif Rashid was elected the new president of Iraq by defeating Barham Salih in the presidential election held on October 13. Immediately after his election, Latif Rashid charged Mohammed Shia Sudani, Prime Minister candidate of the Shiite Coordination Framework, with forming the new government.
