Raziye Öztürk, one of the lawyers from the Istanbul-based Asrın Law Office that represents Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan and his fellow prisoners in İmralı Island Prison in Turkey, is in Strasbourg for official talks. The lawyer met with parliamentarians, senior bureaucrats and various groups in the Council of Europe on Thursday.
During the day, Öztürk also held a meeting with officials from the CPT (Committee for the Prevention of Torture). She was accompanied by DEM Party Representative to the Council of Europe, Fayik Yağızay.
Öztürk reported on the disciplinary penalties, bans on lawyer visits, isolation and other unlawful practices imposed on Öcalan and handed the CPT a dossier on violations of rights in İmralı for the past one year.
During the meeting with the authorities, Öztürk stated that Turkey has not complied with the CPT’s recommendations and suggestions and called on the CPT to take effective action and fulfill its duties against the violations experienced by Öcalan in solitary confinement.
