Leyla Güven: Solidarity shows we have already reached our goal

"How else could we explain fascism: This action exposed it. There are very serious rights violations in the prisons. The resistance in the prison is very valuable. I believe that this action will be successful.”

DTK co-chair and HDP Hakkari deputy Leyla Güven has reached day 112 of her hunger strike demanding the end of isolation against Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Güven continues to receive solidarity visits from people and organisations at her house in Amed.

Workers Movement Party (EHP) and Turkish feminist women visited Güven on Wednesday.

Güven said that the support and solidarity actions for the hunger strike are giving her strength, adding; “As long as the Kurdish problem continues to be the main problem in this country, we cannot talk about other problems. There are very serious problems in Turkey. They are all connected with one another.”

Reaffirming that the hunger strike began to demand the end of isolation, Güven said: “We cannot talk about other problems unless isolation is lifted. Therefore, isolation must be removed as soon as possible. This action has grown with the solidarity of the institutions, organizations and parties, included those who had not been involved in the past. Today we are here, but tomorrow other friends will take their place in this resistance. What is important is the circle and solidarity developed around it. Which is why I value solidarity."

Stressing that the hunger strike will be successful, Güven added: “The AKP-MHP power cannot remain silent anymore. We have nothing to lose. We already started paying the price. I started this action thinking about everything, including death. In fact, I know that this action will bring immortality. If you are showing this solidarity, this action has already reached its goal.”

Güven talked about the problems the HDP deputies had on 15 February when the action they wanted to organise was prevented by police. “When the revolutionaries really enhanced the resistance and transformed them into magnificent serhildan (uprising), they had to take the step. We should not forget the philosophy of Che Guevara. Even if revolution takes place in one place, there is a soul running for the revolution in another country. From our perspective, Mr. Abdullah Ocalan maybe in isolation but this means that everyone is under isolation."

Leyla Güven ended her remarks saying that she is sure the action will succeed and added: "How else could we explain fascism: This action exposed it. There are very serious rights violations in the prisons. The resistance in the prison is very valuable. I believe that this action will be successful.”
