Long March from Basel to Strasbourg reaching Mulhaus

The march has been joined by HDP parliamentarians who are forced to live in exile, as well as representatives of many organizations and institutions.

On the 20th anniversary of the international conspiracy that led to the capture of Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan, a long march is taking place from Basel to Strasbourg.

Over 100 people, including politicians, representatives of institutions and artists, are taking place in the march under the slogan “Let's break isolation, destroy fascism, free Kurdistan.”

On the second day of the march, activists set off after singing the “Hernepêş” anthem in the city of Bartenheim in France in the morning, and chanting slogans for Öcalan and in support of hunger strikers.

‘We will break isolation!’

Activists are carrying banners drawing attention to the hunger strikes carried out in the prisons and in many cities after DTK co-chair and HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven went on hunger strike.

The march has been joined by HDP parliamentarians who are forced to live in exile, as well as representatives of many organizations and institutions. Activists hand out leaflets about the isolation regime imposed on Öcalan and the hunger strike.

Erdoğan condemned

Activists also chanted slogans condemning Turkish president Erdoğan.

The march will arrive in the city of Mulhaus in France in the evening after a 20-km walk.

Birlik: We must reclaim this resistance and increase it

One of the activists who talked to ANF was Leyla Birlik, HDP former deputy of Şırnak. She stated that the resistance must be increased to ensure isolation against Öcalan is lifted.

Birlik commended Leyla Güven who is leading the hunger strike that spread to many prisons and cities.

"Kurds and the Middle East peoples - she said - are going through a critical process. If we do not break this isolation, neither the Middle East peoples nor Turkey’s peoples would be free from isolation. A line of resistance has emerged, this line of resistance is historical and important. Three years have passed since the brutality experienced in Cizre. We must reclaim this resistance and increase it.”

Birlik added: “The enemy is fighting a war for existence and extinction. And this amounts to genocide. For this reason, the Kurdish people and all people who call themselves human should put their hand on their conscience. We need to keep our friends alive by breaking this isolation.”
