Long march in Italy ended

The long march that began six days ago in Milan, Italy demanding the end of the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan, has ended. On Monday, a meeting with representatives of the Municipality of Parma is planned.

The massive hunger strike action commenced in Italy demanding the end of the isolation imposed on Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan has ended today.

The PKK leader, who is imprisoned on the Turkish prison island of Imrali, conveyed a message through his lawyers earlier today calling for the end of the hunger strike and death fast actions. Activists in prisons, in Turkey, Kurdistan and abroad have all ended their fast in the wake of the Kurdish leader’s call.

The hunger strike initiated by HDP deputy Leyla Güven on 7 November 2018 was accompanied by protests worldwide under the motto "Dialogue instead of isolation". A long march staged on the occasion last Monday in the northern Italian metropolis of Milan has also been brought to an end today. The activists had planned to move through several cities until 31 May and end their action in Bologna. After the call of Öcalan, the march has been completed in the community Fidenza in Emilia-Romagna on Sunday.

As the activists announced, tomorrow, Monday, there will still be a discussion on the situation of Öcalan with representatives of the city administration of Parma.
