Macron spoke with Erdoğan for journalist Bureau

French President Macron intervened for Loup Bureau, the French journalist who has been in custody in Turkey since July 26.

A press statement held in the Elysée Palace announced that the French President Emmanuel Macron spoke with Tayyip Erdoğan on the phone.

The announcement stated that Macron told Erdoğan that he is “concerned” that French journalist Loup Bureau is still in custody. Macron reportedly demanded that the French journalist be returned to his country as soon as possible.

According to the statement at the Elysée, Macron and Erdoğan agreed to speak again next week on the matter.

Loup Bureau had been taken into custody on July 26 while crossing into Northern Kurdistan via the border gate in Şırnak and is accused of “membership to a terrorist organization”.
