Marches in Berlin and Hannover continue on day 2

Kurds in Europe stage long marches in protest at the February 15 international conspiracy against Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan and the isolation imposed on him by the Turkish state.

BERLIN

On Friday, a two-day march was started in capital Berlin in protest at the international conspiracy against Öcalan. The march kicked off from Kreuzberg-Kottbusser Tor.

On the second day, the activists gathered outside the Kurfurstendamm Church where they observed a minute’s silence and made speeches condemning the international conspiracy that resulted in the captivity of the Kurdish leader on 15 February 1999.

The organising committee protested the bans and restrictions imposed on the slogan “Bijî Serok Apo” [Long Live Leader Öcalan] and the posters of Öcalan.

The activists will cover 12 km today until the Kottbusser Tor Square in Kreuzberg.

HANNOVER

Yesterday, activists started a three-day march in the Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen) state, and they covered 10 km from Langenhagen to Hannover.

The crowd gathered in front of the the Leine Center in Laatzen at 11:00 this morning to start the second stage of the march. Before the launch of the protest, the German police seized the banners on the grounds of the Öcalan image on them.

Altun Bischoff from the organising committee protested the obstruction, reminding that the German police had stated during talks before the march that the banenrs in question would be allowed during the protest. Bischoff criticised the police for not keeping their word and described the attitude of the police as unlawful.

Before launching the march, the activists observed a minute’s silence in front of Laatzen Leine Center shopping mall at 11:00. They are chanting slogans demanding freedom for the Kurdish leader as they continue their march.

The third stage of the march will start from Hannover train station at 11:00 on Monday. A following rally will be held in front of the Lower Saxony State Parliament in Hannover and a dossier will be submitted to the parliament.

The organising committee called on the Kurds and their friends to gather in front of the train station on Monday.
