Iraqi forces have found a mass grave where hundreds of people were executed by ISIS gangs in June 2014 after they had taken the city under their control.
The Iraqi Internal Affairs Minister Muhammed al Gaban said the grave was found in the neighbourhood where the former president Saddam Hussein’s palace is situated.
Minister Gaban told APF that the grave reminded people of the massacres, adding that they will always pursue the murdererous gangs, vowing that they will sustain peace and security all over Iraq.
Those who were executed by the ISIS gangs were mainly Shia soldiers who were taken hostage at the Speicher base to the north of Tikrit.
A police officer, Huseyin Al Rikabi, said they also found dozens of ID cards next to one of the graves, adding that the documents confirmed the identities of the soldiers who had disappeared or were executed.
The Speciher military base was occupied by ISIS gangs in June 2014 and hundreds of soldiers were executed.
The ISIS gangs then published pictures of the soldiers being executed next to a police building and then thrown into the river.
