Mayor of Siirt Selim Sadak was among the dozens of people taken into custody in Diyarbakýr on Saturday.
A new "KCK" (Kurdistan Communities Union) operation led by the Public Prosecutor of Diyarbakýr was launched in the cities of Mardin, Siirt and Batman.
Mayor Sadak protested his detention during the operation, saying that Kurds will not give in to pressure and repression. Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Siirt former provincial chair Siracettin Kayran and Diyarbakýr Association of Women's Academy executive member Mekiye Ormancý were also taken into custody in the scope of the same operation.
The simultaneous operation in three cities on Saturday ended up with the detention of 87 people, 41 of whom were arrested in Mardin, 31 in Batman and 15 in Siirt. Detainees, largely consisting of BDP Party Council members, provincial and district chairs, city council members, Peace Mothers activists and many NGOS including IHD (Human Rights Association), KURDÎ-DER, MEYA-DER, are expected to be taken to Diyarbakýr on Monday.
