Mayor of Van reinstated into office

Mayor of Van Bekir Kaya has been reinstated upon the approval of the Governor´s Office of Van.
Kaya was arrested in the so-called KCK (Kurdish Communities Union) operation in Van on 7 June 2012 and released following the hearing on 29 March
Kaya, the third Kurdish mayor to have been reinstated in the last one month, will officially take office on Tuesday.
Hurşit Alptekin, Mayor of Esendere (Bajirgeh) town in Hakkari's Yüksekova district, has also been reinstated on 5 April. Mayor Alptekin who had been arrested in the scope of the KCK operation which was carried out in Yüksekova on 12 January 2012 was released on 16 February following the trial at Van 4th High Criminal Court on 16 February.
Deputy Mayor of Cizre Hanım Onur who was also tried in KCK case and released pending a trial on 14 March has also been reinstated recently following 18 months she spent in prison.
