Promoted by the city hall of Donostia-San Sebastian, governed by EH Bildu, this coming October 10th and 11th there will take place in Donostia an International Conference of Mayors and municipal representatives. The conference will be celebrated under the motto “Building Peace from the Local Sphere” and its main objective will be to defend the importance of the local sphere in the resolution processes of political conflicts.

The conference was presented by the mayor himself in the course of Mayors for Peace, recently celebrated in the Japanese city of Hiroshima. It was directed to mayors and local organisms from around the world who have made or are making contributions to the resolution of political conflicts.

This international conference also pretends to be a new contribution and to give a new impulse to the resolution of the conflict in the Basque Country collecting the experiences and contributions of other cities. With this objective mayors and representatives of cities that have suffered or suffer some type of political confrontation have been invited.

The Conference will take place in the Aiete Palace, which is becoming a symbol of the peace process; and at which two years ago the International Conference for the Resolution of the Conflict in the Basque Country was held in which important international representatives took part and at which a valid roadmap for its resolution was set out. At this same place a few weeks ago the recommendations were presented for advancing in the peace process derived from the Social Forum for Peace.

The Conference will have different working groups which will deal with different aspects of the conflicts that have suffered or suffer the participating cities. At the same time you can listen to the experiences set forth in many of these cities to deal with the resolution of conflicts, reconciliation and their contribution to peace.
