Şeyhmus Karadağ spoke to ANF about the disaster in the cities hit by the Maras-centred earthquakes.
Karadağ said that the wreckage in the district still remained intact. He remarked: “7 people from the MEBYA-DER Amed Centre reached the region last night to help the residents of Pazarcik. We walked down the city and saw the devastation in the district. All the debris remains intact. There is not any search and rescue effort carried out by the state-run AFAD. As far as we have learned from the people here, some people are still trapped under the rubble.”
The residents of Pazarcık urgently need help so as to prevent further deaths and to pull dead bodies from the rubble. Karadağ said: “The residents of Pazarcık need food. There are still bodies under the rubble. The AFAD should urgently come to the region to remove these dead bodies and debris. Unfortunately, neither the state nor the AFAD has sent rescue teams or aid to the region.”
Karadağ continued: “People are waiting for their bodies to be pulled from the rubble. There are currently no rescue efforts. It seems that it will take months to pull bodies from the rubble. The MEBYA-DER team is in the region for the residents of Pazarcık and we will provide the basic needs of the people in the villages and city as much as we can. As soon as we arrived, we were directly involved in the relief work. From now on, we are ready to do whatever we can and we will continue to stand by our people in the region.”
