Members of the British Kurdish People's Council in Strasbourg

The support for the 14 activists on indefinite hunger striker in Strasbourg is growing by the day.

14 Kurdish activists have been on hunger strike in Strasbourg, France for 72 days demanding the end of the isolation against Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

On Monday people coming from different countries in Europe joined the solidarity hunger strike launched in front of the Council of Europe.

Among those visiting the hunger strikers were members of the British Kurdish People’s Council, Birsel Poyraz, Besime Başar, Arzu Peşmen, Ercan Akbal and Türkan Budak.

Birsel Poyraz, speaking also on behalf of Roj Women's Council stressed that the hunger strike resistance spread to all areas and that Kurds in Britain would act side by side with the hunger strikers.

Poyraz, who called on the Kurds in Europe to take action in their thousands, pointed out the importance of lifting the isolation on Öcalan.

Council executive, Ercan Akbal, emphasized that the resistance led by Leyla Güven was replicated in Strasbourg as well as in many parts of the world.

Underlining that the resistance will be enlarged, Akbal called for greater mobilization in order to break the isolation.

PYD members, who joined the first group going on a 5-days solidarity hunger strike in front of the Council of Europe, also visited the 14 activists in Strasbourg.

In addition, a journalist with Dernieres Nouvelles Alsace (DNA), the biggest newspaper in the Alsace region, arrived in Strasbourg and visited the hunger strikers.

Members of the Kurdish Friendship Association of Alsace also received information to prepare a bulletin about the situation of the activists.
