Memorial for Ali Ismail Korkmaz

Ali Ismail Korkmaz was killed during the Gezi protests in 2013. He was commemorated at his grave on Sunday.

University student Ali Ismail Korkmaz was beaten to death during the Gezi protests in Eskişehir in 2013. On Sunday he was commemorated on the anniversary of his death. The memorial was organised by the Ali Ismail Korkmaz Foundation (ALİKEV).

Korkmaz was commemorated at his grave in Ekinci Asri Cemetery in Hatay's central Antakya district.

Korkmaz's mother Emel Korkmaz, his father Şahap Korkmaz, his older brother Gürkan Korkmaz and HDP, SYKP, TİP, Left Party, TÖP and Eğitim Sen members and executives attended the memorial.

'Justice will be done'

Speaking at the commemoration, the Korkmaz family reiterated their demand for justice. Şahap Korkmaz said: "Those who murdered my son will live with the curse of the murderer on their necks, they will live in fear and they will also be held accountable one day."

HDP Adana MP Tülay Hatimoğulları said that they will increase solidarity with families. Commemorating the Gezi protesters who lost their lives in different cities, Hatimoğlular said: “If we forget them, our hearts will dry up. We won’t."
