Memorial for commanders Avesta and Engin in Helsingborg

HPG and YJA Star Commander Zin Avesta and PKK Central Committee member Kasım Engin were commemorated with an event held in Helsingborg, Sweden.

PKK Central Committee member Kasım Engin (Ismail Nazlıkul) fell martyr on 27 May as a result of an airstrike carried out by the Turkish state, while Zin Avesta (Hafize Özdemir), a HPG and YJA Star commander lost her life after suffering from cancer.

The commemoration in Helsingborg began with a minute's silence in memory of Engin and Avesta as well as all the martyrs of the revolution. A video about the life and struggle of Commander Engin was then shown.

Kurdish researcher Sultan Öger, who knew Engin closely, said: “The most important feature of comrade Kasım was that he performed all kinds of tasks with the highest energy. He was a valuable revolutionary who gave morale to his friends with his positive personality under all circumstances.”

Underlining that the biggest obstacle to the unity and freedom of the Kurdish people is betrayal, Öger added that the struggle will succeed thanks to the demonstrations against betrayal in every area.

Öger then underlined the important role of commander Zin Avesta in helping to create the free women's struggle. She recalled that Avesta joined the Kurdish Freedom Movement and the struggle to liberate women with determination.
