Lawyer Ebru Timtik died two years ago after 238 days on death fast demanding a fair trial. She was commemorated at her grave in Gazi Cemetery.
The Contemporary Lawyers Association (ÇHD) Istanbul Branch and People's Law Office (HHB) commemorated lawyer Ebru Timtik, who lost her life on the 238th day of her death fast demanding a fair trial, at her grave in Gazi Cemetery. In the commemoration, the banner "Ebru Timtik is immortal" was opened.
A letter written by colleagues to Timtik was read. The letter was read by Çiğdem Akbulut, the head of the ÇHD Istanbul Branch, and reads as follows: “Two years ago today, in the evening, we witnessed the physical end of the struggle you have fought throughout your life. We continue to seek justice." The letter also spoke of the struggle of “a mother in Urfa, Emine Şenyaşar, who is holding a sit-in in front of the Urfa Courthouse, to punish those who murder her family every day and those who turn a blind eye on these murderers... Just like you, your clients are resisting for the right to a fair trial, just like you, Gökhan, Sibel and Ileri do not only demand the right to a fair trial for themselves. They want freedom for all ill prisoners by giving up their own healthy bodies, they demand the rights of all prisoners. Gökhan Yıldırım is now being held in a hospital room just like you. They make him experience the injustice and oppression that you went through. Ebru, even though we could not find justice, we won’t give up. We’ll continue your struggle.”
