Memorial on third anniversary of 9 young people murdered in racist attack in Hanau

A memorial was held for the 9 young people who were murdered in Hanau on 19 March 2020 as a result of a racist attack.

A memorial was held in Düsseldorf for Gökhan Gültekin, Sedat Gürbüz, Said Nesar Hashemi, Mercedes Kierpacz, Hamza Kenan Kurtović, Vili Viorel Păun, Fatih Saraçoğlu, Ferhat Unvar and Kaloyan Velkov, who were murdered as a result of a racist attack in Hanau, on 19 March 2020.

The massacre took place in Oberbilk Markt and on Saturday, three years on, the nine young people were remembered by a large crowd of antifascist, leftist groups and Kurds.

At the rally, left-group activists made speeches against racism and demanded that measures be taken against the rising extreme right. Arzu Sorar spoke on behalf of the Kurdish Women's Movement and spoke about the earthquakes that took place in Kurdistan, Turkey and Syria on 6 February. She called for solidarity and support.
