Cumali Karsu, Şeyhmus Poyraz and Hasbi Aydemir, the three inmates jailed in Imralı prison together with Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan, met their families on 28 January. The three political Kurdish prisoners who were transferred in Imralı in November 2009 had been denied meeting with their families since March 2011.
Speaking to DIHA (Dicle News Agency) about the meeting Felek Poyraz, brother of Şeyhmus Poyraz said: "When I
asked my brother about the situation of the Kurdish leader, he said
their leader was fine. He told that talks between MIT officials and the
Kurdish leader continue and that he, Öcalan, shared all developments and
details in the process of talks with the other prisoners. He said
Öcalan asked for their opinions about any matter, saying that "I may be
the leader but we are comrades. We will be moving together, no matter
what happens". He said the inmates in Imralı prison followed the current
developments reading Özgür Gündem daily paper and that they came
together in a common area for an hour and discussed the developments in
Turkey and the world every day."
Poyraz said his brother and
other inmates were ready to do whatever necessary to achieve peace and added:
"He told me they were ready to sacrifice their lives for the Kurdish
people. He said Mr. Öcalan was taking necessary steps to ensure a
solution and called on the Kurdish people to stay strong and determined. Öcalan added that PM Erdoğan should also take steps on the way to a
solution."
Poyraz said they wanted the inmates in Imralı to receive the same treatment with other prisoners in Turkey prisons.
Vezire Poyraz, mother of Şeyhmus Poyraz had not seen her son for 23 months. She said that relatives had been subject to a strict body and belongings search before being allowed into the prison. “The high ranking officers there searched us ten times at least. They told me, a 70-years-old woman, to take off my clothes, but I insistently refused this imposition which is the most cruel one I have ever seen”.
Mother Poyraz said her son sent his greetings to his people, to his comrades and to his family and remarked that the inmates in Imralı prison are being subjected to a isolation. Poyraz underlined that; “As a mother, I want the ongoing bloodshed to stop and the people in prisons and on mountains to turn back to their houses.
