MFS Commander: Our target is to liberate villages around Til Hemis

MFS, the defense force of the Assyrian and Syriac communities living in Cezire Canton of Rojava, is continuing to fight alongside the YPG (People's Protection Units) against ISIS gangs.

MFS (Syriac Military Council) Commander Johan Kosar who spoke to the Syriac International News Agency, said that their target was to liberate nearly 150 villages and hamlets under ISIS occupation around Til Hemis where ISIS presence has continued for over a year now.

Regarding the operation jointly launched by the YPG and MFS, Kosar said that; “It has been a while since the operation in Til Hamis began. Fighters of the Syriac Military Council and the People's Protection Units are continuing to fight together in the operation. The villages we liberated from ISIS terrorists at the beginning of the operation are still under our control. Some villages and towns including Til Maruf, Reya, Şermuk, Hareke, Ebu Xazaf, Ebu Xesayb had been liberated. There are at the moment no people from the Syriac community living in these villages where only MFS and YPG fighters are present.”

The MFS Commander said the distance between ISIS positions and theirs was around 1,5 km during the day and some 400-500 meters at night.

Pointing out that the ISIS gangs would seize an opportunity for an attack on the mainly Syriac populated Gozarto area in Cezire Canton in the event of Kobanê's fall, the MFS commander said the gangs would still attempt to attack to region should they fail to get Kobanê.

Kosar remarked that the Assyrian-Syriac peoples believed stronger in their self-defense force with each passing day, adding; "Our people have seen that there are people defending Gozarto. The people are very glad to see this. The more attacks we face, the stronger the alliance between MFS and Sutoro (public security militia) grows. The MFS also includes Christian fighters coming from Europe."

We are the soldiers of our people, we are fighting for our people's freedom, Kosar said and underlined that their will was their greatest weapon in the fight against ISIS gangs.
