ISIS gangs attacked the migrants at Rajim Salibi border crossing between Syria and Iraq early this morning. Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) responded to the gangs immediately and rushed those injured in the attack to Hesekê hospital together with Heyva Sor and Asayish members. 22 people were killed at the scene and many more were injured as result of the attack. 15 of these with critical injuries, mostly women and children, lost their lives at hospital.
Injured migrant Beshar Hesen who is receiving treatment at Hesekê Weteni hospital said “Gangs attacked us during our sleep in the early morning and opened fire on us. Many people died or got injured.”
Hesen stated that the migrants escaped from ISIS occupied areas once they saw the advance of Syrian Democratic Forces, whose fighters came to the rescue of civilians.
Another injured migrant, Salih Shihade from Iraq’s Salahaddin region stated that nearly 200 migrants from Iraq and Syria are still at the Rajim Salibi border gate, and added that ISIS gangs kidnapped many migrants and stole their cars before fleeing from the area.
