Mike Arnott: Öcalan's freedom is the key for a peaceful solution to the Kurdish question

Mike Arnott, chair of the Dundee Trade Union Confederation of Scotland, said that "Abdullah Öcalan's freedom is a key to a peaceful solution."

Responses to the 69 Nobel Prize winners' letter about the absolute lack of communication from Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan continue to come through. Global messages of support for Abdullah Öcalan's freedom also continue.

Mike Arnott, chair of the Dundee Trade Union Confederation of Scotland, saluted the Nobel Prize winner’s letter and called for an immediate end to the isolation in Imrali.

Arnott told journalist Erem Kansoy on Medya Haber: “The freedom of Abdullah Öcalan is essential for peace to be achieved."

Arnott added that the signatories of the open letter are “very important, and have stood up and demanded Öcalan’s freedom and for the Turkish regime to end the Kurdish issue by talking to the PKK.

69 Nobel Prize winners know that realistically and logically, it is not possible to bring the PKK and the Turkish state to the negotiation table without Öcalan. They are very well aware of Öcalan’s important role and identity. Not a single step can be taken for the solution to the Kurdish issue without Öcalan’s freedom. Öcalan is the crucial representative of the Kurdish people at a possible negotiation table. Öcalan is the only name that is inevitable and accepted in a possible peace process. He should be freed immediately so that he can take his place at the table.”

Arnott continued: "People all over the world are now aware of Öcalan's situation. Everyone is aware of his importance. The Democratic Confederalism, ecology and the women's liberation paradigm have been the source of inspiration for progressive and revolutionary initiatives. The ideas and philosophy proposed by Abdullah Öcalan inspire radical, revolutionary democratic policies around the world today. Öcalan is also the key figure for a peaceful solution to the Kurdish question."
