A Turkish citizen confirmed to be gathering intelligence on Kurds and Kurdish associations in Germany was arrested by an order from Federal Court.
31-year-old Mehmet Fatih Sayan was arrested in the German city of Hamburg yesterday. Sayan is reported to be providing Turkish intelligence service MIT with the residence information, contacts and political activities of Kurdish citizens and institutions in Germany.
While police conducted a search in Sayan's house, the suspect was arrested by a German court yesterday.
Sayan was first exposed in mid November by pro-Kurdish daily Yeni Özgür Politika which highlighted his reports on Kurdish institutions, politicians and journalists in the name of the Turkish intelligence service MIT. Accordingly, Sayan had disguised himself as a reporter for Denge TV.
Yeni Özgür Politika had exposed Fatih Sayan to be gathering information and documents for an "assassination team" operating in Bremen for Turkish intelligence. Federal Prosecutor's Office had therewith launched an investigation into the claims and the suspect who was accused of "conducting secret activities in Germany in the name of MIT".
Sayan's notes revealed that MIT was closely following the European Democratic Kurdish Society Center (KCDK-E) Co-President Yüksel Koç and KONGRA-GEL Co-President Remzi Kartal.
