More arrests in Van and Amed

Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor's Office has reported that 17 people have been detained and the number of those arrested rose to 8 in connection with the killing of 4 people supporting the HÜR-DAVA Party in October.

Police teams raided a number of houses in the main Kurdish city Amed last night, detaining 17 people alleged to have participated Kobanê protests on 6-8 October and to have ties with the killing of four supporters of the Hüdapar in the conflict.

Three minors are among those detained in last night's operation while the statement by the Public Prosecutor's Office noted that 7 other people for whom a search warrant has been issued as part of the investigation into the killings are yet to be detained.

On the other hand, yet another student has been arrested in Van where 15 students had been detained as part of an operation targeting youths studying at Yüzüncü Yıl University this week. Seven of them were referred to Van Courthouse following procedures at the anti-terror branch of the provincial police directorate. Six were released by the court while Ferhat Deniz was referred to a court, demanded to be arrested.

Deniz was remanded in custody and sent to prison following a hearing, increasing the number of students recently arrested in Van to 5.
