Most of the Spanish State today enters Phase 1

The Spanish state enters Phase 1, towards a "new normality", with doubts and fear.

The transition towards a "new normality" in the Spanish state continues. Today the region of Madrid, Barcelona and a large part of Castilla y León, which are still in Phase 0, from today will see stores and other businesses with premises measuring under 400 square meters open although without customers. Indeed customers should make a previous appointment in order to go to the shop.

Education centers, universities and libraries will also reopen and visits to museums will also be permitted. High-level sporting facilities will open, but not open-air sports installations. Places of worship can reopen, but with a third of their capacity, while up to 15 people will be able to attend funeral wakes if they are outdoor, up to 10 if they are inside.

The rest of the Spanish state has been in Phase 1 since last Monday or will move to it today. This is the case for remaining areas of the Valencia region still on Phase 0, the remaining provinces in Castilla-La Mancha (Albacete, Ciudad Real and Toledo), and the remaining provinces in Andalusia (Granada and Málaga).

Hunting and fishing will be permitted once more, and businesses with premises measuring over 400 square meters will also be able to reopen.

Sales will be allowed in these establishments, but only if they can guarantee “that crowds will not be formed that impede keeping safe distances, excess capacity, or compromise the rest of the measures established in this order.”

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said on Sunday that the number of daily coronavirus deaths fell today to 87. This is the first time that fatalities related to the Covid-19 disease have dropped below 100 in two months.

The official number of Covid-19-related deaths in the Spanish state stands at 27,650, with a total of 231,350 confirmed cases.
