Mothers fined for sit-in to support hunger strikers in Van

Mothers of prisoners as well as HDP and TUHAYDER executives were fined over the hunger strike.

The families and executives of HDP and TUHAYDER have been fined for having promoted actions in support to the hunger strikers in Van.

The fines were of 320 TL and were given on the ground of the Law on Misdemeanours. Van Police Department Security Branch, responsable of giving the fines, fined some of the mothers 3 times.

As well as to mothers of prisoners, the fine was given to Van Büyükşehir Belediye co-mayor Mustafa Avcı, deputy Muazzez Orhan, HDP provincial co-chairs, TUHAYDER executives.

Zekiye Kaya, one of the Mothers of Peace, said: “We made a sit-in for our children not to die. We made a sit-in to support peace and life. Yet we were fined for our peaceful action.”

We won’t paid

Kaya, stating that they will not pay the fine, said: "We will not pay that money. We did not commit any crime. We wanted our children not to die and extended the hand of peace.”
