Mothers of Qamishlo on hunger strike against isolation

“Those children are not just your sons and daughters, they are Rojava’s children too.”

The solidarity hunger strike in the Canton of Jazira is on its second day. The hunger strike is carried out at the 19 July Park led by Konreya Star and the Qamishlo Martyrs' Families Association.

People and especially women are coming to the Park to join the action and express their solidarity to the hunger strike. Among the 154 activists on solidarity hunger strike in the tent, Martyrs' Families Association and Kongreya Star member Hanifa Hesen has a son, a brother and a cousin who fell martyrs.

“We, the mothers, - she said - we have been on hunger strike for two days. We are saying to our comrade Leyla [Guven], ‘You are not alone and we will continue to follow your steps’. Kurds will not sit, will not stop and will not get tired. We will continue to act until our leadership, our daughters and our sons remain on isolation. We are all together in this, no matter in which part of Kurdistan we find ourselves.”

Haifa Hesen said that for a mother this situation is like having a knife to her throat. “Those children are not just your sons and daughters, they are Rojava’s children too.”

Kongreya Star and HPC-Jin member, Galya Suleyman is also on hunger strike. “We will always be in action, as promised to our leader. We are ready to do whatever falls on us and these actions will continue until our leader is freed.”
