DTK co-chair and HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven has reached the 129th day of indefinite hunger strike, an action she launched to demand the end of isolation against Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Since the HDP deputy began her fast, thousands have joined her, in prisons, Kurdistan, Turkey, Europe and even Canada.

The health condition of the hunger strikers, especially those in prisons, has reached a critical stage.

New activists joined the hunger strike every day, and on Thursday three Kurdish activists in London began fasting.

Hakkari deputy Leyla Güven has gone on hunger strike on 8 November 2018 while she was still in Amed prison.

In Hewlêr HDP member Nasır Yağız joined Güven in her resistance and his now on his 116th day of hunger strike.

In France, in the city of Strasbourg, 14 Kurdish activists have been on hunger strike for 90 days while Imam Şiş in Wales has also reached day 90 of fast.

A number of former and newly elected HDP deputies have also joined the indefinite hunger strike.

Former Istanbul deputy and DBP co-chair Sebahat Tuncel and former HDP Hakkari MP Selma Irmak are both in prison and are on their 60th day of hunger strike.

HDP Diyarbakır MP Dersim Dağ has been on hunger strike for 14 days. HDP Van MPs Tayip Temel and Murat Sarısaç have been on hunger strike for 9 days.

Serhat Akın and Gurbet Ektiren, who went on hunger strike in prisons, continue the hunger strike after their release.

Akın is on the 60th day and Ektiren on the 61st.

HDP deputies on hunger strike Tayyip Temel, Murat Sarısaç and Dersim Dağ said in their Newroz message that isolation will end.

“We will celebrate Newroz with the spirit on the resistance”

HDP MP Tayyip Temel said; “Newroz 2019 will be marked by the hunger strike resistance. Newroz always means resistance for Kurds. But this year the resistance both in prison and outside will turn Newroz into a festival of democracy and renaissance. The spirit of resistance of comrade Leyla and the other comrades in prison will fill the air.”

Temel MP continued: “I call on all the people of Kurdistan to light the Newroz fire with the spirit of resistance. Newroz 2019 will be a hope for the struggle and freedom of the Kurdish people. Newroz will open a new door for the destruction of isolation in Imralı. Mr. Öcalan's voice will reach all Kurds. The oppression and persecution of the fascist regime will be prevented and the resistance will reach its goal. With this belief and hope, our people should gather around the Newroz fire and give voice to the resistance. This resistance fire will be celebrated in all parts of Kurdistan with a triumph of victory.”

“We will continue the resistance until isolation is lifted”

HDP Amed MP Dersim Dağ said: “We call upon our people this year to transform all places into resistance and rebellion areas. We will raise the struggle on the fields on 21 March. We will be the voice of Leyla Güven and the voice of the prisoners. The isolation is being imposed on all the peoples, not just Öcalan. We will resist to the end against isolation.”

Sarısaç MP: This Newroz will mark the end of isolation

HDP Van MP Murat Sarısaç said: “We are going to celebrate Newroz 2019 and reach our goal with the spirit of resistance. Today, thousands of prisoners are on hunger strike indefinitely. Leyla Güven has been fasting for 129 days, and her voice is raising and it is the voice of success. This resistance will pave the way for all the peoples of Kurdistan and the Middle East. The Kurdish people have always resisted the oppression, we are getting closer to the revolution. This Newroz will mark the end of isolation."
