NAV-DEM issued a written statement and called for participation in the upcoming march and rallies. In its statement, NAV-DEM said that the Turkish state’s isolation of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan and attacks against Kurdish people know no boundaries, and Erdoğan is planning to attack West and South Kurdistan after his seizure of DBP municipalities, arrest of Kurdish elected officials, and closure of non-governmental organizations. NAV-DEM emphasized that the AKP, MHP and Ergenekon are fueling nationalist sentiments, using state resources and cooperating in order to eliminate the gains and the political will of Kurdish people in a way that defies the values of humanity.

'WE CALL UPON EVERYONE TO SHOW SOLIDARITY'

In its statement, NAV-DEM expressed concern over the health of Öcalan due to the Turkish state’s fascist policies, and criticized the prevention of Öcalan from meeting with his family and lawyers. NAV-DEM underlined the importance of protests in order to put a stop to the unlawful treatment of Öcalan and the concept of destroying Kurdish people and taking opposition groups as hostage. NAV-DEM called upon people from different ethnic and religious groups to join the protests that will take place between January 14 and April 4 with the motto "Freedom to Öcalan, status to Kurdistan."

In its call, NAV-DEM emphasized the need for increasing the solidarity and enhancing the struggle for creating a free, equal and shared life where people of different identities such as Sunnis, Alevis, Êzidîs, Assyrians, Armenians, revolutionaries, democrats, socialists and progressives can coexist, and called upon everyone to support YJK-E, HDK-A, the Democratic Force Union and other revolutionary and democratic groups that will lead the upcoming protests across Europe.
