New arrest decision for jailed former MPs Tuncel and Tuğluk

Sebahat Tuncel and Aysel Tuğluk, who testified from Kandıra No 1 F Type Closed Prison, to the investigation launched by Ankara Chief Prosecutor on the October 6-8 Kobanê protests, were arrested.

Democratic Regions Party (DBP) former co-chair Sebahat Tuncel and Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) former party assembly member Aysel Tuğluk were arrested within the scope of the investigation into the October 6-8 Kobanê protests launched by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

Within the scope of the investigation, Tuğluk and Tuncel were sent to the Criminal Judgeof Peace on duty after their statements to the prosecutor, given from Kandıra No 1 F-Type Closed Prison via Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS).

Tuğluk and Tuncel, whose statements were taken at the Ankara 5th Criminal Court of Peace, were subsequently arrested. 

Democratic Society Congress (DTK) ex-co-chair and HDP former deputy co-chair Aysel Tuğluk was prosecuted in 2016 as part of an investigation against the DTK. Ankara 17th High Criminal Court announced its decision on 16 March 2018. The 16th Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Appeals completed the appeal review of the verdict on Aysel Tuğluk and upheld the 10-year prison sentence handed out to her. Aysel Tuğluk has been in Kandıra No 1 F Type Closed Prison since 29 December 2016.

DBP's former co-chair Sebahat Tuncel, who was tried at Malatya 5th High Criminal Court, was sentenced to 9 years and 9 months in prison for "being a member of an illegal organization" and 5 years and 3 months for "making propaganda for a terrorist organization". The 18th Criminal Chamber of the Antep Regional Court of Justice overturned the 15-year prison sentence given to Tuncel, which will also affect its essence. Tuncel's trial continues. Tuncel was detained and arrested while protesting the arrest of HDP MPs on 6 November 2016.
