The new Constitution of the Republic of Cuba was approved with 86.85 percent of the votes according to preliminary data.

Alina Balseiro Gutiérrez, president of the National Electoral Commission said that of the 9 million 298 thousand 277 citizens with the right to suffrage, 7 million 848 thousand 343 citizens went to the polls to answer the question: "Do you ratify the new Constitution of the Republic?" 

Of those who voted, 6 million 816 thousand 169 voters voted YES (86.85%) and 706 thousand 400 voted NO (9.0%). 

7 million 522 thousand 569 votes were accepted as valid, 127 thousand 100 annulled and 198 thousand 674 blank.
