Nine more ESP members arrested in Istanbul

Nine more members of the ESP (Socialist Party of the Oppressed) have been remanded in custody on Saturday in connection with Gezi protests in Istanbul.

Sixty nine members of the party had been taken into custody as a result of house raids in Istanbul and Çanakkale on 18 June on the grounds that they joined Gezi protests. Thirty three were referred to court on Friday and eighteen among them were arrested after bearing testimony to the prosecutor.

The courthouse had released seventeen out of 34 party members and referred seventeen others to court, demanding their arrest. Eight among them were also released later.

With the most recent arrests, 27 executives and members of the ESP have been arrested in connection with Gezi protests. 36 people have been remanded in custody across the country since the protests began three weeks ago.
