5 thousand people who crossed the border from Kobanê and went to Suruç following attacks by ISIS are not being allowed to cross the border and return to Kobanê.
People from Kobanê angry at the AKP government's propaganda to the effect that ‘Kobanê has been evacuated’, are not being allowed to return home. They are being halted at the Murşitpınar border by Turkish troops. The people said that the Turkish state wants to empty Kobanê, adding that they will find a way to get across the border and return home.
Three thousand people halted at the border at Mürşitpınar yesterday crossed despite attempts to prevent them doing so. Around 2 thousand others in Suruç town and nearby villages are continuing to wait. 62 year-old Teyyar Ahmed, who said he arrived 4 days ago, said he had witnessed the hypocrisy of Turkish policy. Ahmed said: "In fact, we abandoned our homeland because an atmosphere of panic was created. After crossing the border Turkish government ministers received us with open arms and showed their innocent face. Now we are attempting to return to Kobanê they attack us with truncheons."
Huseyin Muhamed, who came to Suruç with his family after ISIS gangs attacked the village of Qeremox, said they would return to defend Kobanê. He said: "I've left my family here, but I want to go to Kobanê to protect it. The Turkish state is holding us hostage here. We brought our elderly, the sick and children here, but now we want to protect our homeland. The Turkish state doesn't want us to go. We are aware they want to empty Kobanê. Those who smiled when we arrived are now attacking us because we want to return."
