Nobel Prize Holder Şirin Ebadi: Öcalan should be released
Speaking to ANF following a conference organized by Harald Edelstam Foundation in Stockholm, Nobel Peace Prize holder Iranian human rights defender Şirin Ebadi pointed out that Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan should be liberated to ensure a healthy advancement in the peace process between PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party) and the Turkish state.
Ebadi commented the initiation of the peace process as a significant step on the way to a lasting peace in the country and stated that she hoped the Kurdish people will be granted their rights as a result of this process.
Focusing her speech at the conference on Iran's nuclear energy, Syrian policy and violations of human rights, Ebadi reminded that hundreds of students in Iran have been held in prison for protesting against the policy of the Iranian government.
