HDP Şırnak MP Nuran Imir told ANF that their application to the Ministry of Justice to meet with Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan, who is held in isolation in Imralı Prison, has not yet been answered.
Drawing attention to the situation in Turkish prisons, Imir said: “The AKP is in an economic and political crisis. In order to cover up this situation and the chaos it has created, it follows a policy of holistic anti-Kurdish hatred both in the international community, in the four parts of Kurdistan and in prisons. Most torture methods in prisons have now become systematic. While there were a few problematic prisons or their administrators in the past, today we are faced with methods that go beyond isolation in all prisons. It is the AKP government that has implemented the policy of denial, destruction and war in the most incredible way to this day. We see this from prisons to the streets and even in the Parliament.”
Millions are worried
Imir continued: “Millions are in great anxiety because of Mr. Öcalan's health and the absence of news for 21 months. The reason for our request for a visit is to reveal what is going on in Imrali. As a society, we are seriously concerned about the situation of Mr. Öcalan, who has not been heard from for a long time. What is going on in Imrali? What is hidden from family, lawyers and society in Imrali? As if this were not enough, various speculations arise over Mr. Öcalan every time. Our attempts will be to eliminate these speculations. The government has to address these concerns in society by accepting applications coming from lawyers, family and us. We have made such a request to the Ministry of Justice, but no positive or negative response has been received yet.”
Sooner or later, they will open the doors of Imrali
Noting that they wanted Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan to step in again in order to help solve the Kurdish issue, Imir said: “We need to hear from Mr. Öcalan, who has not been allowed to meet with his family or lawyers for a long time. This is not just our request. It is the demand of the Kurdish people. It is necessary to arrange a visit as soon as possible without waiting any longer. We are using all methods within the legal framework. Sooner or later, this government has to open the doors of Imrali to the family, us and the lawyers. The power renews itself by feeding from chaos and crisis, and maintains its existence by making war policies sustainable. Because of this, it wants to make itself the only option by disabling every solution-oriented policy. Otherwise, the government itself knows that the Kurdish problem will eventually be resolved by Mr. Öcalan.”
