Öcalan: The siege of Kobanê will drag Turkey into a new process

HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) delegation has released a statement about the details of the meeting they had with Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı island prison yesterday.

According to the delegation, Öcalan recalled the fact that the Kobanê reality and the resolution process were an indivisible whole, and called on everyone to defend “this democratic journey and struggle for humanity that has cost everybody a lot”.

Öcalan said the current critical process witnessed quite significant developments and knife-edge times for not only the region but the future of humanity.

The delegation said the Kurdish leader pointed out that the narrow-scaled talks in İmralı have witnessed the manifestation of a determination giving weight to negotiation, and that an agreement has been reached at this level.

The delegation continued conveying the following message of the PKK (Kurdistan Worker's Party) leader; "What is of first priorty at the moment is to frame the road map and action plan with a meaningful complement of principles. This is because of the fact that even the most ideal action plan will not be able to go beyond being a bare text unless treated in a monolithic manner. The formation of a ground in order for the determination of these principles can only be possible by ensuring the establishment of organs for negotiation, commissions and councils being in the first place."

Öcalan stressed that; "In this context, there is no obstacle left to practice the will for negotiation which has taken shape in a decision of the council of ministers [referring to the draft bill on the Kurdish settlement process which the government submitted to parliament ahead of the presidential election]. It is of major importance to initiate formal negotiations in line with this officialised text and its content without losing time. The fate and welfare of the process, which we have managed to bring to this point by means of great devoutness and self devotion, lies directly related to the rapidity and seriousness of the steps to be taken."

Remarking that "the entire world is witnessing now what a savage organisation like ISIS, which we can figure as the JITEM (Turkish gendarmerie intelligence and anti-terror unit) of the Middle East, may well do", Öcalan stressed that the siege of Kobanê, should it succeed, would go beyond an ordinary siege of a town, target the democratic gains of the Kurdish people and also drag Turkey into a new coup process.

"Should this massacre attempt succeed, it will both bring an end to the ongoing process of resolution and lay the foundations of a new coup that will last long", the Kurdish leader emphasised and noted that everyone who wants to understand the Kobanê and Rojava issue correctly needs to apprehend this truth very well.

Öcalan called on everyone opposing to the breakdown of the ongoing process and democracy journey in Turkey to support and defend Kobanê in a serious and responsible spirit.

According to Öcalan, a flux and reflux is observed to be taking place among the state authorities that include both those acting result-orientedly and those appealing to the shallowness of annihilation. He underlined that it was vital for those siding with a resolution to develop timely and active interventions in the process and problems.

The Kurdish leder recalled once again that the Kobanê reality and the resolution process were an indivisible whole, and called on everyone to defend this democratic journey and struggle for humanity that has cost everybody a lot.

The HDP delegation ended its statement by conveying the Kurdish leader's greetings to all the Kurdish people who have put a great resistance against ISIS gangs in Kobanê, Sinjar, Jazaa, Rabia and Makhmur, and all those who have displayed solidarity and support across the country.
