ÖGC to hold panel on "Freedom of Press in Turkey"

The Association of Free Journalists (ÖGC) is organizing a panel discussion on "Freedom of Press in Turkey from Tan to Özgür Ülke" to mark the anniversary of the bombing of Özgür Ülke (Free Land) paper in 1994.

The panel which will take place at Cegerxwin Cultural Centre in the afternoon will handle the history of media in Turkey, pressure and censorship on press, operations against media organs of the free press tradition, and the role of the press and self-censor in Turkey.

Following the panel, activists of the Association will join the weekly sit-in of IHD (Human Rights Association) and relatives of the disappeared at Koşuyolu Park, and remember the journalists killed in Turkey so far.

The Association has called on people and all journalists to attend the panel and the sit-in to take place in the mian Kurdish city Amed/Diyarbakır today.
