Minister of Family and Social Policies Fatma Şahin has answered the parliamentary question BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) Batman deputy Ayla Akat Ata had tabled in April 2013, asking the Ministry about which measures are being taken to prevent violence against women.
According to Minister Şahin, at least 12,321 women have applied to units of the Ministry to denounce violence in the last one year and nine months.
Giving information about the measures the Ministry has taken to prevent violence, Şahin said the recently formed “Violence Against Women Data Base/System” and “Pilot Scheme Research Project” were aimed at gathering and monitoring data on any kind of violence against women.
The Minister remarked that 4,210 women were provided with temporary protection due to domestic violence between March of 2012 and May of 2013.
According to the figures of the Ministry, a total of 13,929 women denounced physical, sexual and psychological violence between 2006 and 2011, 6,547 women in 2012 and 5,774 in 2013, till September 4.
