Owners of palace in Cologne don’t want Erdogan

The family who own the historic Wahn palace in Cologne didn’t want Erdogan visiting their property, so Erdogan is holding his meeting with the NRW State Prime Minister Lacshet in the guest hall of the Cologne airport.

On his third day in Germany, Turkish President Erdogan met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel for breakfast.

The two leaders didn’t give statements to the press about the meeting today, but it is known that they continued the negotiations from yesterday. The media reported yesterday that Erdogan gave Merkel a 69-person list, and Erdogan had accused Germany of “hosting thousands of terrorists” in the reception held for him in the Presidential Palace yesterday.

COURT RULES IN FAVOR OF PALACE OWNERS

Erdogan is set to travel to Cologne after his meeting with Merkel today. But there has been an unexpected development with the meeting Erdogan will hold with North Rhine Westphalia (NRW) State Prime Minister Armin Laschet in the Wahn palace.

The family who own the palace said they don’t want Erdogan and they won’t be hosting the meeting. They faced pressure from the NRW government, and ended up appealing to the administrative court in Cologne. The family said they don’t want to host political meetings, and the court ruled in their favor.

This development led to last minute changes in Erdogan’s program in Cologne. After landing in the Cologne/Bonn airport, Erdogan will be meeting with NRW State Prime Minister Laschet in the guest hall in the airport that belongs to the Defense Ministry.

It had previously been announced that Laschet would attend the opening ceremony of the DITIB mosque in Cologne alongside Erdogan, but Laschet changed his mind due to protests from the public and the opposition.
