PACE member Castel: The solution lies in the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan

Laura Castel, Catalan member of PACE, submitted parliamentary questions to the Presidency of the European Council to end the isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan and to end human rights violations in Turkey.

Another initiative to end the isolation imposed on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and ensure his freedom came from Catalan politician Laura Castel.

Laura Castel, Catalan member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, drew attention to the isolation in her parliamentary question submitted to the Presidency of the European Council.

Answering the questions of Erem Kansoy from Medya Haber, Laura Castel said: "The way to a peaceful solution is through the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan."

Castel submitted two written parliamentary questions to the Committee of Presidents of the European Council. She said: "The first parliamentary question was about prisoners kept in absolute isolation. I asked how the Committee of Presidents of the Council of Europe can allow Abdullah Öcalan and the other 3 prisoners on Imralı Island to be incommunicado with their family and lawyers from 25 March 2021, and to be cut off from the outside world in its own member country."

Castel said that another parliamentary question was about "life imprisonment and the ongoing violation of human rights in this context" and asked: "Is there a commission  to monitor whether Turkey complies with human rights?"
