PACE to send delegation of observers to Turkish elections

PACE confirmed that it will send a delegation to Turkey to observe the presidential and parliamentary elections on 14 May.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has confirmed that it will send a delegation to Turkey to observe the presidential and parliamentary elections on 14 May.

PACE said in a statement that a delegation of 33 members led by Frank Schwabe, a member of Germany's Social Democratic Party (SPD), will be in Turkey on 12 May and until 15 May.

Before the elections, the delegation will meet with presidential candidates, party leaders, the Supreme Electoral Council (YSK), the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK), journalists, and representatives of civil society, said the statement.

In addition, it was announced that a member of the Venice Commission and the independent legal experts group of the Council of Europe will provide legal support during the visit.

The delegation will announce its preliminary findings at a joint press conference in Ankara on Monday, 15 May.

The PACE delegation, which visited Turkey on April 12-13, drew attention to election security.
