Paris martyrs commemorated in Argentina

In Argentina, the Kurds murdered in Paris were commemorated and the investigation of the attacks, which took place ten years apart, was demanded. Various organisations are calling for a meeting with the French ambassador.

Several protests and commemorations related to the attacks on the Kurdish liberation movement in Paris took place in Argentina this week. In Córdoba, Sakine Cansız, Fidan Doğan, Leyla Şaylemez, Evîn Goyî, Mîr Perwer and Abdurrahman Kızıl, who were murdered in the attacks on 9 January 2013 and 23 December 2022, were remembered. A video about the struggles of Sakine Cansız and Evîn Goyî was shown at the event, and the Jineolojî researcher Nagihan Akarsel, who was murdered by the Turkish secret service in Sulaymaniyah on 4 October 2022, was also remembered.

In the Argentinean capital Buenos Aires, the mothers of the Plaza de Mayo addressed the Paris attacks during their action, which takes place every Thursday and with which they demand the clarification of the whereabouts of their children who disappeared during the military dictatorship. Speeches commemorated the Kurdish martyrs of Paris and pointed out the connection between the two attacks, which took place ten years apart. "The Kurdistan martyrs are here - now and always!" shouted those present as an expression of solidarity.

On Friday, a protest action took place in front of the French Consulate in Buenos Aires. Many different organisations took part in the action, including "Memoria Verdad Y Justicia", "Pañelos en Rebeldia", "Ni Una Menos" and "Nunca Mas", in addition to the Madres de Plaza de Mayo. The activists demanded an explanation of the Paris attacks and a meeting with the ambassador. The demands were handed over to the embassy employee, Virginia Reynal, together with an information dossier. The action ended with the call "Jin Jiyan Azadî" (Woman, Life, Freedom).
