Parliament bans Kurdish MP from two sessions for saying Kurdistan

Turkish parliament banned HDP’s Osman Baydemir from two parliamentary sessions after he said “Kurdistan” in his speech.

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) MP Baydemir spoke in today’s parliamentary session over 2018 budget. Baydemir criticized the AKP government’s oppression against Kurds and democratic forces and said that the 2018 budget was a budget for war.

In a part of his speech, Baydemir said Kurdistan. After his use of the word Ruling Justice and Development Party’s MPs protested.

When an AKP MP asked, “where is Kurdistan?” Baydemir responded by putting his over his heart and said: “It’s right here, Kurdistan is here”.

After the incident, Baydemir was banned from two parliamentary sessions by the parliament’s president.

Other HDP MPs left the general assembly after the parliament’s decision and decided not to participate in today’s parliamentary sessions.
