Reports are coming through of an agreement between NATO member states and Turkey on a supply of advanced Patriot missile system to defend against Syrian attacks.
Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoðlu told a news conference that "The countries who supply NATO with Patriot missile system are known, we have reached an agreement with those countries. The official application will be completed as soon as possible".
Would the Patriot missile system be deployed to Turkey, tension would certainly increase.
NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen had previously said that any missile deployment would be a defensive measure to counter mortar rounds, not to enforce a no-fly zone over Syria. But his words have failed to reassure anyone as it is clear that deploy missiles to Turkey would in fact mean building up to a no-fly zone.
