Peace Mothers Initiative in Amed held a meeting to explain how to create a popular assembly in the main Kurdish city Diyarbakır on Wednesday.
Speaking at the meeting, DÖKH (Democratic Free Women's Movement) activist Gülistan Balkaş remarked that peace mothers will be setting up their own assemblies in all cities hereinafter in line with the decision made by Peace Mothers Initiative during a conference two months ago. Balkaş said Peace Mothers will thus have the opportunity to put their own decisions into practice.
Noting that all mothers have something to say and should therefore ensure strong participation in the assemblies to answer their problems and hopes, Balkaş underlined that; “Assemblies represent the will of the peoples. The assembly of peace mothers is the will of mothers”.
DÖKH activist added that they will also form communes in villages in order for the resolution of problems on local level.
Speaking after, Peace Mother Ayhan Yersin put emphasis on the importance of enhancing the struggle to prevent further deaths of the children in the country and called on all mothers to take part in the works of the assemblies. Yersin said they attached no importance to the statements of Barzani, president of the Kurdistan Regional Government, or others, adding that; "We hear only one single voice and that is the voice of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan. Barzani's visit to Amed means nothing to us".
