Peace Mothers: Isolation must be lifted once and for all
The isolation of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan continues. Peace Mothers called on government to act before things get worse.
The isolation of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan continues. Peace Mothers called on government to act before things get worse.
A massive hunger strike protest was carried out months ago launched by HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven who demanded the removal of isolation imposed on Öcalan for 8 years.
Thousands of people in prisons were involved in the action and 8 people lost their lives. The government finally gave in and the hunger strike was called off.
However, isolation continues with different dimensions. Neither Öcalan's family nor his lawyers can see him. Applications are either rejected or left unanswered.
The mothers during the hunger strike showed the greatest responsibility.
Makbule Dikmen, whose son was on hunger strike for 103 days, said: "My son Mehmet Sait is in good shape. I'm already an old and sick mother. I got 10 times older on those hunger strike days. We stood behind the demands of our children. We have stopped today, but we're scared. We thought the isolation was over, but it's continuing. It's enough! We mothers want this isolation to be removed completely as soon as possible."
We won't leave our sons nor Öcalan alone
Reminding that her son Ilhan Kaçar lost 25 kilos during the hunger strike and survived a very difficult treatment process in the period after the action, Nezahat Kaçar said: "You see what these people did to us. All we want is the complete abolition of the isolation on our leadership and the release of our sons who are in prisons for thought offenses without starting a new hunger strike. I don't leave Öcalan or my son behind. Let them understand this and end this isolation as soon as possible."
Saniye Duman said: "We need to overturn this situation because it gets worse. We are not afraid of the police truncheon. We are not afraid of being arrested. We, as Peace Mothers, will continue to shout the demand for peace everywhere at any time."
Mother Latife Söylemez said: "I want the isolation of Mr. Öcalan, our leader, to come to an end. Even at the most critical point, our children continued their hunger strikes without thinking about their lives. If the isolation continues in this way, soon more actions will be started. I'm addressing all the authorities and the government from here. The path they follow is wrong."
